Frankfurt Motor Show: BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid

BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid
Coming as a surprise to all of us BMW unveiled its first hybrid in the world in the form of a BMW Concept X6. The BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid reduces fuel consumption by up to 20 percent.
Co-developed with DaimlerChrysler and GM the hybrid system combines two compact, high-performance electric motors with a transmission using fixed transmission ratios. The two mode active transmission consists of a high-performance battery, power electronics with an integrated inverter module, and the cables required. The two-mode active transmission is based on an ECVT electrical continuously variable transmission. The two operating modes are optimized for low and high speeds.
BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid can be driven on electric power only, on the combustion engine alone, or with a combination of both power units. As a part of BMW EfficientDynamics the hybrid system may find its way in the BMW range in the near future. BMW wanted present the new technology with a brand new vehicle.
