CHEVROLET CAMARO GETS TUNED BY WIMMER RS AND AUDIOVOX

Audiovox has enlisted Wimmer RS to create a bespoke Chevrolet Camaro to promote the company's Magnat audio systems. Looking bold and aggressive, the one-off model has a two-tone exterior with a ground effects package and 22-inch Oxigin wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan Sport tires. The Camaro's cabin has always been a bit of a disappointment, so Wimmer added leather / Alcantara seats and an Audiovox infotainment system. The coupe has also been equipped with a 4400 watt Magnat audio system that has digital amplifiers and two 30cm subwoofers. For added performance, the 6.2-liter V8 engine was outfitted with a revised ECU, an optimized air intake and a stainless steel sports exhaust system. Thanks to these tweaks, the engine produces 451 HP (332 kW) and 596 Nm (439 lb-ft) of torque which enables the car to hit a top speed of 274 km/h (170 mph).

2012 chevrolet corvette c7

 i have just been reading the respected US Road & Track magazine which has some snippets of information on the new C7 Chevrolet Corvette V8 cars. The suggestion is that it will, along with being moderately more compact, become slicker and lighter. This also includes a smaller but just as powerful V8. Some of the changes are driven by government legislation and some by consumer desires and demands.

There had been plans for a mid engine V8 arrangement but the Global Financial crisis has meant that plan is on hold (temporarily). For the V8 engine we will most likely see a reduction in cubic capacity to 5.5-liters and very possibly direct injection, along with an increase in the compression. Don't expect such technologies as over head camshafts.

So a C7 Chevy Corvette with a 5.5-liter V-8 with outputs the same as the current LS3 (6.2-liter) is highly likely. Along with the V8 engine improvements it is expected that the Chevy Corvette's performance will be further enhanced with weight reducing composites, magnesium and aluminum. There are suggestions of a vehicle weight of around 3000 lbs.

The other juicy suggestion is that the next generation of the Chevy Corvette will be supercharged (like the current ZR1). So in spite of the financial gloom and doom the American small-block has weathered the storm and looks to be here for a while yet. And in fact it appears to be a better product because of the storm.

The Chevrolet Volt is a four-seat, four-door “series plug-in hybrid” hatchback with a plug-in battery pack that can power the car’s 149-horsepower (111-kilowatt) electric motor by itself for up to 40 miles.

Standard features such as a fixed glass sunroof, a trip computer, full power accessories, keyless ignition, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a split-folding rear seatback, cruise control, Bluetooth, the OnStar telecommunications service, a back-up camera and a CD stereo with a video display, an auxiliary audio jack, a built-in hard drive and a USB port are included. A hard-drive-based navigation system is optional.

Volt’s driving force system will be based on GM’s new Voltec (formerly known as E-Flex) electric automobile platform. It is significantly different from GM’s earlier BAS Hybrid and Two-Mode Hybrid systems.

With fully charged batteries, enough electrical energy will be stored to power the Volt up to 40 miles (64 km). This distance is capable of satisfying the daily commute for 75% of Americans, whose commute is on average 33 miles (53 km). More than 40 miles (64 km), a small 4-cylinder gasoline inside combustion engine creates electricity on-board using a 53 kW (71 hp) generator to extend the Volt’s range to more than 300 miles (483 km). The electrical power from the generator is sent primarily to the electric motor, with the excess going to the batteries, depending on the state of charge (SOC) of the battery pack and the power demanded at the wheels. The distribution is controlled by the electronic control unit (ECU) of the vehicle.

The first pre-production test car based on the full Volt design was built in June 2009 in Warren, Michigan and by October 2009, 80 Volts had been built and are being tested under various conditions. On March 31, 2010 the first factory-built Volt was produced at the Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant in order to test the production line and for quality control purposes.

Safety features on the 2011 Chevy Volt include antilock brakes, stability control, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.

Chevrolet Corvette 2012 gets mild

The Z06 Corvette now gets Magnetic Selective Ride Control and an optional carbon fiber hood.  The standard manual transmission for the ZR1 gets taller gearing in fifth and sixth gears, which improves highway fuel economy by 2 mpg.
Inside all 2012 Corvettes get a new seat design and steering wheel. The seats have larger bolsters on the seat back and cushion areas. Microfiber suede seat inserts are optional. In 2012 the Corvette also gets a new nine-speaker Bose audio system.

2012 Chevrolet Sonic

The Chevrolet Sonic is offered in two body styles: a stylish four-door sedan and a sporty five-door. Each delivers class-leading rear-seat roominess and cargo space. The sedan and five-door models are distinctively different. The five-door carries a tight, two-box shape with aggressive, diving feature lines, while the sedan’s “notchback” profile has a more upscale and mature presence. At first glance, the five-door model looks like a three-door hatch because the rear door handles are discreetly located in the “C”-pillar area. The rear of the five-door continues with unconventional details, including exposed, motorcycle-inspired rear taillamps. Details that reinforce Chevrolet Sonic’s quality and attention to detail include chrome grille surrounds and matte black honeycomb grille inserts on all models, while a range of large wheel sizes, including 17-inch alloy wheels, reinforces its sporty demeanor.
Chevrolet Sonic models are powered by efficient, power-dense, small-displacement engines, including the Ecotec 1.4L turbo and the Ecotec 1.8L – the same engines used in the new Chevrolet Cruze. Three transmissions are available: a five-speed manual and six-speed automatic with the 1.8L and a six-speed manual with the 1.4L turbo. The Ecotec 1.4L turbo’s power ratings are estimated at 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb.-ft. of torque (200 Nm) between 1,850 rpm and 4,900 rpm.
The naturally aspirated Ecotec 1.8L engine has many of the same features of the Ecotec 1.4L turbo. It is a compact and durable four-cylinder engine designed for low maintenance, low emissions and fuel efficiency. Its two-stage variable intake manifold allows approximately 90 percent of peak torque to be available from 2,400 rpm to 6,500 rpm. It is estimated at 135 horsepower (101 kW), along with 123 lb.-ft. of torque (167 Nm) at 3,800 rpm.
Production of the Chevrolet Sonic begins later in 2011 at the General Motors Orion Assembly Center in Michigan, which received a $545-million investment in upgrades and retooling, and will help restore approximately 1,000 jobs in the metropolitan Detroit area.
